Safely descended from Kem Baha, Gunung Stong State Park at 4 pm today. I had a great time spending the weekend with my best friend, Opo. He picked me up at KB airport Thursday night. We had a delicious char kuew teow as supper.
Our journey on friday started as early as 6 am. Using HUSM bus, Opo managed to get it free of charge through his department using team building as justification. Journey of 2 hours to Dabong where i can see for myself the affected area by 2014 flood in Kelantan.
We met Abang Jai, our guide at Dabong KTM station. The station currently not in operation since KTM still try to fix the affected railways due to the flood. Abang Jai took us to three limestone caves in Dabong. The caves are secret gems! I could see tremendous amount of formation, not to mention all the corals fossil that are neatly preserved. Since all of the people who joined this trip are surgeon, I explained to them how the caves were formed, and what kind rocks they are looking at.
We continued our adventure by ascending Gunung Stone up to Kem Baha. Kem Baha is where the Jelawang Waterfell starts to fall and can be seen throughout Dabong. Opo did a great job in preparing the campsite and brought all the cooking utensils. He also brought hammock which was awesome. We tried to sleep on the hammock but after an hour, we decided to sleep in the tent because it is too cold.
Abang Jai explained few trivia about Gunung Stong. One of it was the mountain was named after Kelantanese way of pronouncing "stone". The British gave its name as Mount Stone due to a large boulder that sit on top of the summit. The locals however pronounced it as Stong.
